Uniqlo Lightweight Down Volume Collar Coat
During the holiday season, I caught an amazing sale at Uniqlo. I’m a really big fan of their lightweight down jackets– they’re perfect for traveling! But since I still like to wear skirts and dresses during the colder months, I was in the market for a longer coat; a down coat for less than $80 was an awesome deal!
I was in love with the color and collar of this coat, but I wasn’t such a big fan of the shape. When I purchase winter coats, I usually like my coats to be somewhat fitted because as I mentioned in my previous post about how to style your winter wear for the cold weather: you coat is your outfit!
While this coat does a great job at keeping the warmth in, I needed it to do a little more for me visually. One day it dawned on me: it needs a belt! I have a wicked belt collection but eventually settled on a thin metallic gold belt. I chose gold because the color goes with almost any and everything… and thin in shape because it helps balance out the bulkiness of the coat.

When it comes to coats such as trenches, peacoats, car coats or reefers, you may want to increase the thickness of the belt for a little extra detail because the silhouettes are usually more sleek and fitted. I decided to go thicker when it came to this textured car coat. The coat already has such a busy pattern, so the thickness of the belt along with it’s smooth, solid color really pulls this look together.
