Escaping NYC: Goals, Growth & Greece

It’s been a while since I posted here.

I’ve been mainly writing in my private, paper journal… but I’ve been meaning to get back around to this site. Here’s a brain dump with some pretty pictures at the end for your enjoyment/digestion.

I thought that I would have restarted my jewelry business this year, but something in my spirit is keeping that at bay. I have a new project that I want to work on that I’ve been excitedly telling a few close friends about. I’ll be completely honest though, there’s a certain feeling that comes with living in New York City that makes you feel like you have to be busy/grinding/hustling all the time. “If you’re not constantly busy, then what are you really doing with your time?!” And I don’t like it. While I’m excited about my idea, I do question if it’s the right path for me: if I’m doing it for the love of the product or if I’m just doing it to say that I’m doing something.

In other news, I got a new day job. I’m working at a brand that I absolutely love, and while I won’t go into much more detail, one piece of advice I can offer is to: do it. If there’s something you’re interested in doing and you see an opportunity that aligns with your spirit: go for it. I’m currently planning out the next (better) steps to my future. After being stumped for the longest time on “what’s next,” I think I finally figured something out and I’m excited (and a little nervous) to see how things unfold. Some other solid advice (as seen on a friend’s social media the other day): Your new life will cost you your old one. I’ll also add this gem: If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always got. Major changes ahead!

In an effort to never stop learning (and to just relax), I have a few trips coming up. I went to Greece in June and had a wonderful time learning about the culture, meeting new people and eating allllllll the food. I stayed at the Myconian Ambassador which had a wonderful breakfast buffet (eggs benedict, salad with fresh feta and baklava every day!), great service and beautiful views. The weather was perfect. And if you’re wondering what it was like being a black woman in Greece: I felt very welcomed.

I’m headed to Tanzania for the New Year. I would say this happened on a whim, but I want to say that I manifested it. Ha! A few weeks after returning from Greece, I desperately wanted to go on another vacation. I remember thinking to myself one day: I wish one of my friends were going somewhere cool like Thailand or Bali so I can tag along. And then I promptly forgot about my wish and continued on with my life… until I got that email in my inbox one day. So yes, photos of Dar-Es-Salaam and Zanzibar will be available for your viewing pleasure in the future… but in the meantime, here are some pretty pictures that I took in Greece– Mykonos to be exact:
